7 Interview Tips for Landing Your Dream Job

If you have an interview for your dream job, it’s only natural that you want to do your very best.

You may have spotted the perfect role for you on Signature Careers and now find yourself unsure where to begin.

But worry not, that’s where we come in to land a helping hand.

So from preparation to leaving a lasting impression, our 7 interview tips have got you covered.

Winning Interview Tips

Prepare, Prepare, Prepare

Preparation is key when it comes to breezing through that daunting interview.

So, make sure you put pen to paper, brain storm the key questions that you’re likely to be asked and make a brief note of your key responses.

Writing long, specific answers down risks causing panic when you slip up and can’t remember the full answer.

So instead, make a list of the key points you want to emphasise for each question and you’ll find that your answers flow much more organically.

After all, they don’t say “practise makes perfect” for nothing!

Showcase Your Research

While your potential employer will be looking to find out more about you, it’s essential that you know as much as possible about them.

Set some time aside to take a look at the history of the company. What are their brand values? What do they pride themselves on?

If you can showcase your knowledge about the company and explain why their values appeal to you, they’re far more likely to feel that you’re the right fit for the job.

You may also want to keep a couple of basic questions in mind to ask your interviewer. This way, you won’t find yourself lost for words if they ask you if you have anything to ask.

Spend Time on Your Appearance

No, we don’t mean you have to spend hours getting ready or wear a full face of make-up!

But it is a good idea to look and feel your best. Try and decide how formal or informal you should look.

And if you can’t decide, go for somewhere on the smarter side.

As Oscar Wilde once said, “you can never be overdressed or overeducated.”

Leave Plenty of Time to Spare

It may sound a little obvious, but timekeeping is key for making sure your interview day runs smoothly.

Though you may have planned your bus or train route, you need to leave time for the unexpected to happen.

If there’s any delays or changes of plan, you’ll want to have left yourself plenty of time.

Give extra nerves a miss with great time keeping and you’ll breeze through your journey.

Think About Your Body Language

Body language plays an important role in interviews. After all, your interviewer only has a short amount of time to make a judgement.

Preparation will help you to relax and loosen up more naturally. However, nerves can get in the way.

So, make sure that you maintain eye contact, sit up straight and are ready to shake hands with your potential employer when you arrive and when you leave.

These small details are much bigger than you think. Avoid folding your arms and try and relax your body while you’re talking.

Your body language goes hand-in-hand with your experience and your answers. All of these qualities combined will leave a lasting impression!

Take On Your Feedback Positively

Whether you’re the successful candidate or not, all feedback is good feedback.

If you don’t get offered the job, it’s a good idea to politely ask for some feedback to help you prepare for your next interview.

It’s also an idea to send thanks to your interviewer for meeting with you and the opportunity, as you may want to apply again in future.

You never know when landing your dream job may be just around the corner, but all experience will help to ease you through the process.
