Signature Group Searches for Contractor Workforce in Belfast

Signature Group’s growth and investment in Northern Ireland’s capital city of Belfast is reaching a milestone this month as the search begins for building contractors.

The expansion to Belfast was a natural move after the unprecedented success of Signature Group in Liverpool and the recent conversion of The Exchange Hotel, Cardiff. With Crumlin Road Courthouse and The Scottish Mutual Building already in development, and several other landmark buildings in discussion, Signature’s dedication to Northern Ireland is being firmly cemented.

As buildings that have suffered from neglect and are currently in a state of disrepair, major work and renovations are needed to bring them up to the standard that Signature Group is known for. To help us with the task, we’re searching for building contractors to assist in transforming these buildings back to their former glory.

Meet Signature Living

Signature Group is committed to working with local people to sensitively and sympathetically restore these iconic buildings, as well as the future developments which are to be announced soon. Effectively executing this renovation requires contractors from across the building sector, including electrical and plumbing contractors, kitchen and bathroom suppliers, construction workers, specialist hotel technology providers and fit-out companies.

To introduce potential contractors to Signature Group, who we are as a company and similar projects, we’re hosting a unique, informal meet and greet at Belfast City Hall. The event is taking place on Thursday 29th June between 2 pm and 5 pm and local contractors are invited to come along and share their portfolios and experience.

Lawrence Kenwright, founder and chairman of Signature Group, has always had an interest in the historical city. He has been keen to leave the Signature mark on Belfast for some time and believes the people and workforce of the city are a big part of what makes it so amazing.

The Future of Signature Belfast

The purchase of Crumlin Road Courthouse was confirmed in March of this year. Despite extensive damage in the 20 years since its closure, the courthouse has a bright future for the first time in a long time. Signature Group is committed to investing £25 million to ensure the Grade B+ listed building gets the attention it deserves to become the benchmark for the hotel industry in Belfast.

The Scottish Mutual Building, located on Donegall Square South and Bedford Street, is the latest confirmed purchase and has been announced as the site for the much-anticipated George Best themed hotel. Basing the transformation on the highly popular Shankly Hotel in Liverpool, the hotel will be a fitting tribute to the Northern Irish legend.

Both sites, and the sites to be confirmed, will feature Signature Group’s trademark luxury décor and high-quality furnishings and fittings.

Signature Group has a talent for taking iconic and historically significant buildings and returning them to their former glory. With the unparalleled success of 30 James Street, the former headquarters of the White Star Line Shipping Company and the home of the Titanic, and The Exchange Hotel (formerly Cardiff Coal Exchange), we know a thing or two about maintaining listed buildings’ DNA and intertwining history and modernity.

Both 30 James Street and The Exchange Hotel were desperately damaged before Signature Group took them on board. They’re now the most luxurious and beautiful buildings in their respective cities and guests have marvelled at their magnificent transformations.

Signature Group Hosts Recruitment Day to Find the Next Stars of The Garden of Eden

Signature Careers has continued to revolutionise the recruitment process with another fun filled and unique assessment day. This time, the search was on for outstanding catering and banqueting staff for the beautiful and ever popular Garden of Eden venue, situated on the rooftop of The Shankly Hotel.

The Assessment Day

Louise Riley, Recruitment Manager for Signature Group, organised and orchestrated the day, leading the potential recruits through a series of tasks to demonstrate their suitability for life as a representative of the sought-after venue.

Louise was joined by C&B manager Lucy Woodford, Bar Manager Adam Taylor and Eden Supervisor Michelle Hopper to help find the future Signature Stars. The first task saw the candidates create mood boards that they think represented Signature Group, and the team at Table One stole the show with their observations on the importance of food and beverages at Eden. Our iconic and amazing Afternoon Teas are a stand-out fixture at all our developments and the importance of these was demonstrated incredibly well by Table One.

The next part of the lively session was an interactive questionnaire. Each hopeful was given a task to identify key members of Eden’s, and The Shankly Hotel’s, team and find one interesting, unusual or unknown fact about that person.

The hotel’s General Manager was the first piece of the puzzle, and the applicants were delighted to discover Duncan Stewart has a penchant for dressing as The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s Frank-N-Furter. Wedding Co-ordinator Ciara Martin was harder to crack and only one team managed to find out she has a love for playing the drums.

The Shankly Hotel becomes first Autism Friendly Hotel in Liverpool

We are extremely proud to announce that The Shankly Hotel on Victoria Street is Liverpool’s first autism-friendly Hotel.

Signature Living has been working in conjunction with Autism Adventures and Autism Together to help Liverpool to become the first autism-friendly city in the UK.

The staff at The Shankly Hotel and The Bastion Bar & Restaurant will attend special training and awareness programs which will enable the hotel to properly adapt to those with autism and their families.

The training will ensure that The Shankly and The Bastion staff recognise the signs that someone may have autism and will equip them with the ability to handle challenging behaviour.

Autism Adventures was founded by Julie Simpson after she wanted her autistic son Joe to be able to go out in Liverpool and do the things other children can do such as going out for a meal, using public transport, staying in hotels and going shopping.

Signature Living joins the likes of Liverpool One, Merseytravel, Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Everton FC as Autism Champions in the city as we join the bid to make Liverpool a better and more accessible city for those with autism and their families.

It is estimated that one in every hundred people or around 700,000 people in the UK have autism but the awareness around the spectrum of autism is particularly low which is why becoming autism-friendly is so important.

The project is backed by Connect to Autism, a Department of Health-funded scheme being rolled out nationally by the Autism Alliance, a network of 18 autism charities. The scheme aims to increase awareness and understanding of autism right across the UK, it is also backed by the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce.

For National Autism Awareness Week and National Autism Awareness Day (2nd April 2016) the hashtag #FlagUpAutism is being used to spread the message about autism awareness in the UK.

The Shankly Hotel was only opened in August last year so we’re absolutely thrilled to have won this esteemed award after such a short period of time.

The laterooms.com awards are the only awards in the industry which are solely voted for by guest reviews which is a true testament to all of the hotels hard work in the past seven months.

Signature Living to Create 600 Jobs in 2016

Signature Living have announced plans to create 600 jobs in 2016 as part of large expansion plans which will see them expand across the rest of the UK and into Europe.

Last year, The Shankly Hotel, a joint venture between Signature Living and the Shankly family, provided 100 apprentices to the City of Liverpool College students with proved to be highly successful.

Signature Living are dedicated to investing in the youth of Liverpool by providing students with the opportunity to learn and develop skills in specific areas such as hospitality management, accountancy, graphic design, events co-ordination, joinery and web design.

Signature Living will continue to work with the City of Liverpool College to provide jobs in these specific sectors; construction, hospitality, leisure services, digital, design and head office administration.

Students will work across the company’s current portfolio of properties which include 30 James Street, The Shankly Hotel, Signature Living hotel and Signature Living apartments as well as new developments. These new developments include Signature Living Residential, 60 Old Hall Street and The Shankly Hotel which is currently under development for the ultimate Signature Apartments and Eden.

There are also plans for more developments across Merseyside and throughout the rest of the UK and Europe which will be announced in due course.

Lawrence Kenwright, who co-found Signature Living with his wife Katie Kenwright, said; “Signature Living’s recruitment drive is good news for anybody wanting a career with a fast-paced, exciting and growing company.

2016 is about further expanding our operations and establishing ourselves as a major emerging force within the hotel and accommodation sector.

“Our growth means we are in a strong position to offer these new job opportunities.”

He added: “We want to ensure the very best talent is on board and that is why we are building on our fantastic relationship with the City of Liverpool College and will be holding a series of recruitment days.

This year will see us boast 1 million square foot of build space.

Eden, the wedding venue and conference facility situated on the rooftop of the Shankly Hotel, will be ready in spring and Bootle’s Daniel House and our development at 60 Old Hall Street will both be fully operational this year.

We will also be making announcements on further developments very soon.”

The Signature Living company is growing at an exciting pace and providing the local youth with these opportunities is extremely important to them.
