Signature’s Recruitment Team Comes Together for Hospitality Recruitment Drive

Signature Group’s brand new recruitment team got together this week to host another exceptional recruitment day, this time to seek out the best hospitality stars.

Louise Riley, recruitment manager, introduced hopeful candidates to the newly formed team, Rachel Higham and Michael McGurk and together they led a packed out room through a series of challenges and tasks.

Hospitality and great customer service are at the heart of everything we do at Signature. We pride ourselves on putting our visitors above everything else and consider ourselves to be a customer service company before being a hospitality company.

It’s for this reason that our front of house and customer facing roles are filled by only the best and the most outstanding people. From the people who greet hotel guests to the people who serve diners, each and every hospitality staff member has the Signature DNA ingrained in them and they’re proud to wear that DNA on their sleeve.

An Exciting Day of Tasks and Challenges

This week’s assessment centre recruitment day was our busiest one to date, with applicants from all walks of life and all across Merseyside hoping to fill the positions at our new culinary venture.

Joining the new recruitment team were Carpathia’s (30 James Street’s amazing rooftop dining experience) restaurant manager and bar manager, Tom Barrie and Stephen Pickup. Carpathia Champagne Bar & Restaurant is renowned for its impeccable service and dedicated staff, so it made sense that the driving force behind the hospitality beacon would help on the day.

The day began with a series of ice-breakers to help everyone get comfortable and introduce themselves to the group, including letting everyone know what they wanted to be when they grew up. There were some interesting answers, namely someone aspiring to be a monkey and someone pursuing a career as Disney princess.

A firm favourite at the assessment centre is the creation of mood boards by the potential recruits, helping them to explore what they think represents Signature Group. It’s a great way to discover how much the applicants know about the company and whether they are suitable to blend in with the Signature DNA.

Making quick decisions and thinking on your feet is a key part of a hospitality role. In all our dining establishments, there’s a quick-paced atmosphere that keeps you on your toes and deciding the best course of action is a necessity. The lifeboat task is designed to test out these skills by proposing a list of people and asking candidates to choose a small number to save on the last lifeboat leaving a sinking ship.

The most exciting addition to the recruitment day was the connection web. This was an immersive team building exercise that required everyone to find something in common with someone else in the group. Once a connection was found with the first person, a ball of string was tossed to the person who had the connection. This created a physical web of similarities between the large group. When recruitment officer Michael tossed a ball into the web, it fell through to the floor, signifying that while the group were getting to know each other and finding similarities, more needed to be discovered.
