The History of Culley’s
When The Exchange Hotel was the central hub of the world’s coal industry, the building was so busy with traders that a dining service was needed for those that worked long hours. R.P Culley took on the task and held the catering contract for most of the Coal Exchange’s active years.
Richard P. Culley was a local philanthropist who held great esteem in the city, gracing the pages of the local paper for his habit of wining and dining the money men of the day. His restaurant within the Coal Exchange was in line with his philosophy of enjoying the finer things in life, artistically decorated and with an air of fine dining.
He had a team of 60 highly skilled individuals who proved the very best in customer service, something we aim to continue in our restaurant that pays homage to a man highly revered in Cardiff.
