The future of Signature Living is looking brighter than ever. Our latest plans for new hotels in Ireland have spurred exciting headlines and ignited plenty of promise for fresh opportunities.
We’ve recently announced that we’re setting out to build three Belfast hotels within 18 months. And that’s only the beginning of our ambitious plans to transform stunning yet neglected buildings in Ireland.
Sharing plans for the future, Signature Living founder and property developer, Lawrence Kenwright told the Irish News:
“It could be seven (hotels in Belfast), it all depends on deals that can be found, the right property for the project that we want. We hope to have all four open in 18 months, certainly three. I can’t see the fourth yet as we haven’t nailed the fourth, but certainly three can be open in 18 months.”
After achieving an unrivalled presence in Liverpool, Signature Living has risen from strength to strength over the years. Beginning with with our party apartments filling a gap in the market, we now specialise in restoring historic buildings that are deeply loved by communities. We’ve learnt how to give a new lease of life to buildings, restoring them with a long-term purpose in the city.
Only recently, we reopened the doors of Cardiff’s grand former Coal Exchange. The building holds profound sentiment in Cardiff, and now stands proud again, carefully restored as The Exchange Hotel.
Our significant investment of between £80 million and £110 million in Belfast has been welcomed with open arms by councils, and we couldn’t be more excited to begin laying the foundations of our plans and putting them into action.
Though only two of our projects have been shared in detail with the public so far, there’s certainly plenty to get excited about as proposals continue.
Following announcements, the public have expressed great enthusiasm for our new hotels in Ireland, including the £15 million George Best themed hotel at the Scottish Mutual Building along with the £25 million redevelopment of the historic Crumlin Road Courthouse.
It’s safe to say that we have our fair share of experience when it comes to weaving a story around a building, firstly with Liverpool’s 30 James Steet Hotel – Home of the Titanic, secondly with our Bill Shankly-themed Shankly Hotel and of course most recently, Cardiff Bay’s Exchange Hotel.
Expressing what has been learnt from building the Shankly, Lawrence Kenwright emphasised:
“One of the main attributes we learnt from the Shankly was the stories that resonate in every room. So in George Best as you can in Shankly you’ll see a story by a personal friend or an ex-footballer,”
“The idea is you’ve got to reflect the DNA of the building along with the person that’s in there so George is coming into the Scottish Mutual. It will be high-end with a bit of a racy feel. We know the designs, we know what we’re going to do, but we’re still working on it at the moment.”
As for Crumlin Road, at Signature Living we’re currently waiting on planning approval, yet ideas are well underway and we’re very keen to begin working on the site as soon as possible. Similarly to Cardiff’s Coal Exchange, we know we’ll be faced with a lot of rubble that will need removing, scaffholding that will be required to secure the walls and plenty more to do before winter arrives.
However, at Signature Living we’re never afraid of a challenge, and it’s Crumlin Road that Lawrence Kenwright is really looking forward to getting stuck in to.
Until then, Belfast locals can look forward to up to 400 full and part-time jobs across the four new hotels in Ireland, along with plenty of hands-on jobs required for construction.
